2021.12.09 01:59 sencollins Jerm's Ultragor Adventure

Final Tally on Ultragor 15 levels gained (602-617) 19 myths 44 sets (2 not pictured because I locked them) 116 legs
Countless epic, rare, and common
And about 1430 turkey legs
I forgot to track gems and gold (gold would be hard to track because it was set to auto pursuade any epic or leg fams).
Some background: I did this from 6:32 am Pacific to 6:32 pm today, meaning I had 9 1/2 hours of Wednesday bonus and 2 1/2 hours of Thursday bonus. All of the above was without daily IF or Exp boost. I do have 1 mythic IF rune and 1 mythic Exp rune. My guild has maxed perks. I'm currently at t17.
I chose to do this on a Wednesday based on it being a day I logged in early and didn't have work. It wasn't too maximize capture rate or because I was trying to see what would happen without IF or EXP boosts (I wish I'd had those).
I lost an hour to an hour and a half due to a physical therapy appointment. I also spent about 3 hours on mobile, which for me is about 10-20% slower than my steam connection on PC. So I had about 8 hours (67%) of "optimal grind" ability, 3 hours (25%) of suboptimal, and 1 hour (8%) offline.
The plan: My goal for this Ultragor was to get Starweave and the Tayto set. This became an issue after 165 runs without a single mythic gear drop in gauntlet (and I need 4 to finish weave), so I changed the plan. The plan then shifted to getting as many uptier mats as possible (specifically the mythics needed to uptier an ancient and a wb myth).
The grind: I ran 2 packs of 20 raid shards first. I then used the honor built up by that to buy 50 xeal packs (250 runs). The 250 runs would generally get me 1 1/3 levels, so when I would level up, I'd convert my energy to raid shards. That was basically the whole day, augmenting with raid shard bundles, and xeal packs I had stored up when I needed more honor to purchase xeal packs. I used about 30 xeal (20) packs, 13 token packs, and about 10 shard packs (20) and the rest was honor or regen.
Each shard got me about 50-55k in exp on average for the day. WB averaged around 16k per run and gauntlet averaged about 20-25k per run.
I focused on xeals because of the speed of the runs and the return on investment. I tend to get a better drop rate with wb than other contests. It also allowed me to focus on an area where I was lacking mythic mats for uptiering and I was able to get all the myths I'd need to uptier both items from t9 and 10 respectively to t15 in one day. (If I ever get the t/g myth mats, but that's a problem for tomorrow).
It also probably looked like I got even more drops than I did because there were tons of notifications throughout the day. That was partially due to a weird at of personal circumstances that won't apply to most. First, when I started, there were only two WBs- Orlag and Netherworld. I wasn't good enough to be competitive at NW so I mainly ran Orlag. When I got better, I challenged myself to an impossible goal in Orlag (+5 Yorlag, which I got) so I never ran NW. When t10 came out, NW and Orlag didn't get extended so then I focused on Melvin. Then 3XT. When Brimstone came out I was still farming Glarz and Melborg, so I didn't play it. By the time I got them, Titans came out. Then I quit the game. When I came back Abyss had been added and NW and Orlag had expanded to t13, but I hadn't really played them (or Brimstone), so when I ran lower level WBs, I ran those as a change of pace. But that meant each set or mythic was a first time drop and got a notification. I'm sure it looked like I was uptiering, but I didn't.
The takeaway: This exercise made me realize that Ultragor is better suited for uptiering lower tier gear than collecting current level mats. To maximize drops you need 2 things: lots of runs and wins. At your current level, you run slower, die more, and/ or need more help. Because I was running upto 10 tiers below my current tier through upto 2 tiers below my current level, I was able to do a ton of runs quickly. Everything t14 and lower, I could solo; meaning I didn't have to wait for anyone else to be ready or log in or load xeals, etc.
That's not to say Ultragor won't be useful at current level farming, but to maximize it, I think it will really help to focus on what you need a few tiers lower than your current tier.
Having a plan and the resources (time and in game currencies) to maximize your Ultragor is important to get the most out of it.
Happy grinding.
Jerm

2021.12.09 01:59 SOaDaholic Anyone bought stuff from Uproar.org.au?

I bought some vitamins and other stuff from uproar a month ago and still haven't heard anything about my order. I've emailed them a few times with no replies.
I've never bought anything from them before, just stumbled upon them randomly and loved the idea of the profits going to ALV, but now pretty annoyed that I've heard nothing.
Any one else have any experience with them ?

2021.12.09 01:59 lavagirl90 Do guys ask out girls they're no longer interested in?

Guy I'm seeing suddenly got cold with his texting. Poured out my heart telling him I like him back. He ignored foe 2 days. When he finally responded he sent a pic of a random object. He asked me out again but I'm skeptical whether he still likes me. During the 2 days if ignoring me he was frequently online. When we first started seeing each other, he would text everyday or every other day. We've been seeing each other for a month. What would be the reason he's asking me out?

2021.12.09 01:59 ScarletEgret How can we hold government officials accountable for criminal behavior?

A recent news article from Buzzfeed presents evidence that several CIA employees and contractors have engaged in sexual misconduct involving minors. Allegedly, in some cases the individuals were in possession of child pornography, while in other cases they had or sought out sexual contact with children. Most of the offenders were not charged with any crime.
Obviously libertarians want to prevent children from being harmed in the ways described. Unfortunately, the article gives some evidence that prosecutors deliberately avoided charging the offenders due, in part, to the fact that they worked for the CIA. This raises the question, how can we work to ensure that government officials, employees, and contractors are just as likely to face legal consequences for their actions as everyone else? With police I know libertarians often call for the end of qualified immunity, but in this case the justification for not prosecuting the offenders seems to be that prosecuting them might require revealing State secrets in the course of the investigation and trial. Ending qualified immunity would presumably not suffice to ensure that intelligence operatives face legal repercussions for criminal behavior. Is there a way to maintain an intelligence agency, and the secrecy required for such work, without enabling abusers to harm innocent people and avoid prosecution?

2021.12.09 01:59 waretare1981 Tough Love is Love - Boycott as a solution to get TWOW. Need to break up his echo chamber/ "Yes Men Network" (Spoilers Extended)

Tough Love is Love. GRRM is surrounded by sycophants. The only way to get a finish to the series is to break the sycophants feedback channel to GRRM.
I think a lot of people on this thread feel the same way that I do - I really want the next book and a conclusion to the series, regardless of any side material. I'm very tired about hearing all of the side projects GRRM has - the trains, Wild Cards, Multiple TV series, multiple movie deals, non profits, consultations etc.
GRRM lives in an echo chamber and is surrounded by "Yes Men." As a delusional king, I think that he really believes that his fan base is looking for more wild cards, tv shows and wild cards. His "Minions" as he describing them, are reinforcing these false beliefs. " Hey GRRM, my job is determined by keeping you happy, so yes, your fans are really excited you are doing another wild cards book, producing another C rate drama, and helping HBO produce 8 new shows."
I think he feels like he 'can get away' with the side projects because he dramatically overestimates our interest. This over estimation comes from his surrounding of "minions" as described by him, that simply re-enforce any production by him is "genius." The people paid by him give terrible feedback to stay employed.
Therefore something drastic is needed to stop this echo chamber. We as a community need to come to him as a unified front and demand a finish to his series he started and promised. We need to make it clear his "Yes Men" or "Minions" are wrong, and we will not support any project GRRM does, even though he feels everyone should support.
If we start a nationwide Boycott, and create it with the stipulator that we are not watching, reading or buying anything GRRM until TWOW is published and we have a clear path to ADOS would ASOIAF fan be onboard? We It would include a refusal to watch, read, or buy anything GRRM related until the main series books comes out.
I really thing think this is our only solution. GRRM is surrounded by Yes Men, and is now so rich he really doesn't understand the pulse of his fans. (See HBO's Succession). Therefore the only way we can get what we want, finishing the series, is to shock/shame/jolt him into finishing it and his "Yes Men" don't have a grasp on reality and not reporting the truth.
Any else agree on the terms. Anyone else agree abouth the Boycott.
Anyone have experience with a Boycott and give us insight in terms of how best to run?

2021.12.09 01:59 WhoEvenThinksThat Need to continuously bend light based on polarization

I have an application where I need to put unpolarized light through a device that will bend it based on polarization angle the same way a normal prism would diffract white light into a rainbow based on wavelength. Polarizing beam splitters use bifringent material that splits an unpolarized beam into two distinct beams...but doesn't create the 'polarization rainbow' I'm looking for. What device would do this?
